April Lockhart

April Lockhart (born July 4, 1995) began her musical journey at the age of 7 in which she began piano and guitar classes. In April, when she was 12 years old when she wrote her first single called Different. When April was 14 years old, she devoted long hours making song concepts and perfecting the music. The songwriting began alongside her father at home in NY and LA shortly after. April was the month that she began to write about other issues in the book, Take My Hand, for her friends who were dealing with peer pressure, disabilities or suicide. Lockhart is a popular figure and is a lifestyle blogger at the well-known Ilia Clean Beauty brand. Lockhart was born with no left hand and that is part of who she is--but that's not the entire story. Lockhart's Twitter profile does not ignore her status as disabled and does not focus on it. The message? This is the message: We all have multiple identities and are far more complicated than we believe we are. Lockhart states in the video Lockhart via video "I don't think that is what defines my character. It's not my intention to have an impact on disability, because I've plenty to offer." This doesn't interfere with my life. All is well and I have learned to make adjustments. Because it's an integral part of me, it's something that's worthy of discussion. Lockhart is a great example of how to stay going with self-acceptance. She still admits having gone through a few phases regarding her appearance, feeling uneasy in some instances to wear outfits that showcased her arms. Now, though she dons anything she likes and uploads images of her outfits to social media, she is proud of herself. Self-love, she says, is a process. "I believe that you'll be in that place," she said. This is, however, common for anyone with doubts. The people you surround yourself with that truly understand you and see into your heart are the most important people to help you remember what you're worrying about.
